Come for the goals. Stay for the gigs
Planning your match day in Sunderland? Whether you're starting in the city centre, Roker or Seaburn, this guide shows you the best places to eat, drink and explore before heading to the Stadium of Light.
From the City Centre
Starting your match day in town? Plenty to get stuck into before you head to the Stadium of Light.

Kick things off at Mackie's Corner - cracking old building, loads of independents. Grab breakfast bao buns at Pablos Eggs‑go‑bao, or if you want a proper Full English, Spent Grain is the one everyone bangs on about.
After that, wander through The Bridges or pop into Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens. The top floor is all about the city's shipbuilding past - you'll spot the ship names again when you walk over Keel Crossing to the stadium.
Got a 3pm kick‑off and want to catch the early game? Port of Call has it on, plus good scran and a lively pre‑match buzz. The Keel Tavern, The Engine Room and The Terrace are all solid shouts too.
If you want a proper pub, head to Chaplins. Or try The Dun Cow - a class old Edwardian boozer with loads of cask ales. The Peacock is right opposite the stadium and ideal for away fans.
From Keel Square, follow Keel Crossing straight to the ground. If you've got time, nip into Sheepfolds Stables for local beers, street food and a mint match‑day atmosphere.
Away fans: head for the North Stand. You can't miss it - signs and stewards everywhere.
Roker Route

Grab breakfast at Fausto, Love Lily (famous for pancakes), or Tin of Sardines for a Full English with a sea view.
Walk it off along Roker Beach, and if the weather behaves, head out along Roker Pier to the lighthouse. Keep an eye out for dolphins - they do show up. Roker Park is right there too if you fancy a quieter wander.
For a pre‑match pint, The Harbour View is a classic - proper views, proper football crowd. The Wolsey is another good option if you want something a bit calmer.
It's only a 15-20 minute walk to the Stadium of Light. On the way, pop into the Fans Museum - loads of SAFC memorabilia and they serve drinks.
One last stop if you fancy it: Sheepfolds Stables. Beer. Street food. Buzzing atmosphere. Job done.
Away fans: North Stand entrance. Easy to find.
Seaburn Route
If you're starting in Seaburn, there's loads to go at.

Breakfast at YOLO Coffee at The Stack - pancakes, waffles, Full English, all the away‑day fuel you need. Or go a bit fancier at Salt House Kitchen or North.
Afterwards, stroll along Seaburn Promenade and take in the sea air (or the wind, let's be honest). If you've got time, walk down to Roker for Roker Park or head out to Roker Pier.
The Stack is spot‑on for lunch or a pre‑match drink - loads of food and bar options. For a straight pint, try The Promenade or The Grange.
It's about a 25‑minute walk to the stadium. Just follow the coast to Roker, then along the A183 to the bridge. If you're cutting it fine, jump on the Metro from Seaburn straight to Stadium of Light.
Before kick‑off, the Beacon of Light Fan Zone is open next to the ground - drinks, atmosphere, and really family‑friendly.
Away fans: North Stand entrance. You'll be pointed in the right direction.
