The Magic of Houghton Feast is back this October

Held every October in Houghton-le-Spring, Houghton Feast is a 10-day festival with a rich history dating back to the 12th century.  It began as a dedication festival to the parish church of St Michael & All Angels for Michaelmas, and today it continues to celebrate local culture and tradition through a vibrant programme of events for all ages.

This year's theme, "The Magic of Houghton," will run from Friday 3 October to Sunday 12 October 2025, and will feature:

  • Opening Ceremony - on The Broadway, followed by the Mayor of Sunderland switching on the Houghton Feast illuminations
  • Whole Ox Roasting - our most famous and historic tradition
