Houghton Feast
The Magic of Houghton Feast is back this October
Held every October in Houghton-le-Spring, Houghton Feast is a 10-day festival with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. It began as a dedication festival to the parish church of St Michael & All Angels for Michaelmas, and today it continues to celebrate local culture and tradition through a vibrant programme of events for all ages.
This year's theme, "The Magic of Houghton," will run from Friday 3 October to Sunday 12 October 2025, and will feature:
- Opening Ceremony - on The Broadway, followed by the Mayor of Sunderland switching on the Houghton Feast illuminations
- Whole Ox Roasting - our most famous and historic tradition
- Carnival Parade - with dance groups, brass bands, steam & classic vehicles, and community performances
- Primary Dash Road Race- with local primary schools competing in the 22nd annual road race
- Feast Civic Service at St Michael & All Angels Church (Sun 5 Oct)
- Fireworks Spectacular - a highlight for families from across the region
- Fairground at Rectory Field running throughout the festival
- Community eventsto engage with visitors of all ages

Houghton Feast welcome thousands of visitors from Sunderland, County Durham, and the wider North East for a community event steeped in local history and tradition.
