Sunderland's Walk to Win School Competition

Walk to Win Schools

We need to talk about travel!

The Environmental, Green and Sustainable (EGS) youth group are asking all Sunderland schools to enter the 'Walk to Win' School Competition to encourage our communities to get walking this May!

Schools will be recognised for the increase in sustainable travel to school such as walking, cycling, scooting and public transport journeys during Walk to School Week this May.

We have some great prizes up for grabs, winning schools could win a class bundle of active travel goodie bags, a bundle of sports bags and there is £200 worth of class vouchers to be won!

The competition runs from Monday 20th to Friday 24th May. Send your submission to: lowcarbon@sunderland.gov.uk

What do you need to do?

1. Save/print the Walk to Win Travel Tracker Form provided below for your school.

2. Fill out your school and class details.

3. Every day ask your learners how they travelled to school. We recommend reading out the different travel options from the travel tracker form and asking learners to put up their hand to show how they travelled to school that day.

4. Record the number of learner journeys from Monday 20th of May until Friday 24th of May (Walk to School Week - more info at https://www.livingstreets.org.uk/wtsw).

5. Your school can also submit any details on how you are working to promote sustainable and active travel by filling out the Walk to Win Extra Information Form provided. (this is optional)

6. Submit your entry to lowcarbon@sunderland.gov.uk by 5pm on Friday 7th June.

Winning schools:

• Entries will be judged on the increase in walking, cycling, scooting and public transport journeys during Walk to School Week.

• Entries will be also judged on creativity of travel projects.

• If you have submitted a winning entry, you will be contacted via the email you used for your entry from or via the contact information provided along with the submission after Monday 10th June.

Walk to School Week competition rules:

• You may submit one entry per school class. We encourage your school to submit entries from multiple year groups and classes.

• Entries must be submitted via email.

• By entering you are confirming that if your school is selected as a winning school, that your school consents to the entry information being included in future communications such as newsletters and social media.
